All Glory & Honor to God!
Harvest Christian Fellowship has been a part of the spiritual landscape of Niantic/East Lyme for over 25 years. Now we believe the Lord has shown us that it is time for us to become part of the permanent physical landscape of Niantic/East Lyme as well. We have ministered in this community and seen the Lord do some amazing and powerful work here. Although the church is people and not a building, there are times when having staked a permanent claim in an area from which to minister is needed. We feel that the Lord is showing us that this is that time. There has never been a more urgent time in history for the church to be an essential part of the community. We want to answer that call.
Above all, our desire is to please and serve Jesus Christ. We want to be sure that throughout the process of planning, financing, and building that we are hearing and following His voice. Psalm 127:1 reminds us "...Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it..." In light of this, many in our church family have committed to set aside the Wednesday before the 2nd Sunday of each month (which is the Sunday we take up our building fund offering) to fast and pray for God's wisdom and direction in this endeavor.
The scripture tells us in Isaiah 58:1-12 what God's definition of a true fast is. A true fast is not something we do to get God to give to us but rather to make sure we are hearing His heart and are doing what He wills. When we fast and pray with honest and humble hearts, verses 11-12 tell us "The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Those from among you shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In."
More than anything, we want to follow the Lord. Psalm 37:23 tells us, "The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives". We have a strong faith that He WILL direct us. We now feel God has instructed us to pause in the building process. He knows the future. We will faithfully remain committed to the building fund program, and wait in anticipation for what the Lord of lords will do in our midst. May He alone be glorified.
The next big step in the building process is upon us. Our civil engineer has submitted paperwork to the town of East Lyme wetlands commission for review. There will be a meeting via Zoom on September 14th (time of day to be determined) where our plan will be reviewed. This is the first of an estimated 6 meetings with the town in the process of obtaining the permits we need in order to begin building God's newest church. Also, banks and commercial lenders have taken an extremely conservative stance in these unprecedented times. We are still looking for financing. We ask that you be in prayer about these two situations and remember that none of this is a surprise to God and that His plan is perfect.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and all that it has effected, we believe and trust that God's timing is perfect, and His will is good for everyone. With the reopening of the country, we expect the Town of East Lyme to resume town hall meetings regarding zoning and permitting, which is essential for our building progression. In preparation, the Building Team is finalizing plans with the civil engineer and building coordinator, for the purpose of submitting required documents and drawings to the Town for needed approvals, as well as taking the next step in begining to meet with local banks to obtain financing. Please pray for God's wisdom, direction and His favor as we move ahead. Our goal remains the same: to be in the new building Winter 2021, with groundbreaking happening in the Winter of 2020.
Our building pledge fund campaign, Going Deeper, Growing Stronger, Reaching Higher, is designed to show our commitment to God, to the people of Niantic and surrounding towns, and to all those in need by planting a church in our community. Our mission is to create a place where the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, the Word of God is taught, the lost are saved and those in need find sanctuary.
Through your generosity and giving, and by the grace of God, we will all see this mission fulfilled. Prayerfully seek what the Lord would have you contribute. Pledge cards are available online. The program began in October 2019 and runs through October 2022. Pledges can be made as a one-time donation or an ongoing monthly or yearly offering. Fill in and submit your pledge today to be a part of Going Deeper, Growing Stronger, and Reaching Higher for Jesus.
